Target groups
The project’s target audience consists of professionals in the fields of architecture and real estate who are involved in the design, construction, and operation of buildings, as well as their renovation:
- architects, landscape architects, designers, urban planners
- energy specialists, sustainability consultants
- developers and investors, project managers, real estate fund managers
- public investors: representatives of central and local government responsible for investments and building management
- students majoring in construction and architecture
Why the LIFE ClimArchiBase project was launched
The building and construction industries have a huge impact on the environment.Budovy a stavební průmysl mají obrovský dopad na životní prostředí.
CO2 emissions – Buildings account for more than 37% of global CO2 emissions.
Energy – Buildings in the EU consume 42% of energy. Materials – buildings account for about 50% of extracted materials in the EU.
Water – buildings consume large amounts of drinking water and also affect rainwater management in built-up areas.
Heat island – with ever-rising temperatures and an increasing number of tropical days, the problem of heat islands in cities is worsening.
Biodiversity – currently, the built environment is not designed with regard to the biological diversity of plants and animals.
Social sustainability – people spend up to 90% of their time in buildings and the rest of their time in parks, on streets, and in other built-up areas. These environments influence health, mental well-being, cultural perceptions, and the personal relationships people form.
Legislation – in the Czech Republic and the EU, legislation is rapidly evolving in the areas of building energy efficiency, building carbon footprints, the circular economy, and adaptation. Documents such as the EU Green Deal, Fit for 55, EU Taxonomy, EPBD, and initiatives like the New European Bauhaus are increasingly influencing the construction sector.
Fragmentation of resources – know-how on all these topics already exists, but is currently scattered across many different sources.
The goal of the LIFE ClimArchiBase project is to clearly compile this information on a single platform.
How we do it
Educational Programs – We train professionals and organize educational programs. We offer training for various target groups, ranging from short seminars, workshops, lectures, and field trips, to multi-day training sessions, and longer, comprehensive programs. For example, we are preparing the Real Estate Sustainability Academy for development professionals and training for representatives of cities and public investors.
Online information platform – we are gradually adding information and resources to this web platform, ClimArchiBase, regarding current legislation, publications, education, and consulting services in the field of sustainability. We leverage and share the many years of know-how and practical experience of individual project partners in the field of sustainable construction.
Web application for designing sustainable projects – we are developing an interactive application to help architects and investors create sustainable project briefs. The application will include environmental, social, and economic criteria.
Workshops and roundtables – we organize events that foster discussion and interdisciplinary collaboration and help develop functional policy proposals leading to sustainability. We draw on detailed knowledge of current Czech legislation, in the final drafting of which we are actively involved.
Consulting Services – We offer a wide range of consulting services for specific projects, helping to steer them toward sustainability. We provide consulting to architects and designers, developers, public investors, city representatives, and other experts.

The Passive House Center is an independent association that has been dedicated to raising awareness about healthy, energy-efficient, and sustainable construction for nearly 20 years. We focus on investors, professionals, academics, educators, students, and children. Our independent voice is heard at the municipal, regional, and national levels. We bring together over a hundred verified companies and specialists, including architects, designers, energy specialists, as well as suppliers of materials and technologies. We organize comprehensive courses, workshops, field trips, conferences, and panel discussions; we publish professional publications, databases, and reports; and we also offer advice and consultations.

Rethink Architecture Institute, z. ú.

At Rethink Architecture, we educate and connect professionals in the construction industry and provide them with the tools they need to work together to create architecture that is both people- and nature-friendly. We organize lectures and workshops, provide in-house training, publish resources, and have created a Database of Sustainable Solutions in Construction. We offer consultations and advisory services in the field of sustainable architecture and construction for institutions, commercial companies, and individuals.

Project partner
For more than 30 years, the Partnership Foundation has been connecting public administration, experts, and active citizens. We support civil society through grants for green projects and by providing expertise in the areas of public space design, green building, climate adaptation planning, and citizen engagement in planning. For municipalities, we offer accredited training programs on adapting to the impacts of climate change. The best way to foster a shift in thinking is through examples of high-quality solutions, which is why we organize the annual Adapterra Awards competition for climate adaptation measures. This competition gathers and recognizes high-quality implemented solutions, including the stories behind their creation. When preparing construction projects for both public and private investors, we provide consultations on climate adaptation solutions. To this end, we also utilize data measured at the nearly carbon-neutral Open Gardens site in Brno.

Project partner
The Czech Green Building Council (CZGBC) brings together companies from various sectors of the economy. What unites them is a commitment to high-quality buildings and construction practices that support both new construction and renovation based on the principles of sustainability. The Council has been active in the Czech Republic since 2009, and all its activities are aimed at achieving the so-called Vision Zero—a state in which buildings have zero environmental impact throughout their entire life cycle. We motivate the market to change the ways in which people design, build, maintain, and operate buildings and urban complexes. We strive to create healthy, prosperous, and environmentally and socially responsible urban environments that improve quality of life.
